Attempted murder and other charges are now filed against a Benton County man who opened fire on five law enforcement officers near Princeton Thursday.
64-year old Karl Holmberg of Glendorado Township was taken into custody after holing himself up inside his home for several hours.
According to the criminal complaint, Holmberg's wife told investigators that when they saw police outside their home, Holmberg allegedly told her it was "his day to die."
All five officers are expected to survive their injuries.
Police in Benton County were involved Thursday at what was described as a “critical incident”. The five law enforcement officers were shot and taken to hospitals in St. Paul and St. Cloud. During the incident, the Benton County Sheriff says officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect who was arrested.
The five officers come from Princeton Police, the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office, and Elk River Police.
