More changes are coming to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
MSP Airport says significant concessions redevelopment will bring 47 new venues to Terminals 1 and 2 by 2029.
In total the airport plans to redevelop 80,000 square feet for food, beverage, retail, news and convenience, and spa venues.
The Metropolitan Airports Commission says a request for proposals will be released on May 26 outlining the redevelopment of 40% of MSP’s total concessions program.
“We’ve developed an RFP based on a tremendous amount of research about what travelers and customers want while also leaning into emerging trends both in and outside the industry,” said Isabella Rhawie, MAC vice president and commercial revenue officer. “We’re looking to curate a strong mix of national and Minnesota-based businesses to offer more choices, brands and experiences for MSP passengers.”
The updates will focus on increased access to coffee, more quick service brands, and improved convenience.
"So that's about 47 units in this upcoming RFP and that RFP will have opportunities for food and beverage, retail, news and convenience, and even a spa service," says Rhawie.
The MAC’s concessions program developed the RFP to bring in what they're calling a fresh lineup of concepts that focus on high-value customer desires:
- Increased access to coffee
- More local or national quick-service brand options
- Improved convenience with food markets and shop-in-shop retail
- Enhanced passenger dwell space in the Terminal 1 Airport Mall
Just last week, MSP Airport showed off progress on its Terminal 2 expansion project which is in its final year. The $263 million investment includes updates to concession spaces, restrooms, service amenities, the addition of two more gates.
Part of the reason for the expansion in Terminal 2 is the purchase of Minnesota-based Sun Country Airlines by Allegiant.
Vice president of planning and development with the Metropolitan Airports Commission Bridget Rief says Allegiant will help fill gaps in traffic for Terminal 2, and add more activity to the smaller of MSP's terminals.
"Allegiant has the opportunity to come in and fit flights in those not busy times, so that the use of the terminal should become more consistent," says Rief. "They'll be able to fit flights in those gaps."
MSP is the 17th busiest U.S. airport, with 15 airlines providing nonstop service to 167 domestic and international destinations. The airport served more than 36 million passengers in 2025.
