Cody Fohrenkam has been found guilty by a jury in the February 2022 murder of 15-year-old DeShaun Hill. The trial was handed over to the jury this afternoon, and it took them less than an hour to reach their verdict.

Fohrenkam has been found guilty on all counts, second-degree murder with intent, not premeditated, and second-degree murder while committing a felony, in the shooting death of Hill.

The state and defense rested without Fohrenkam taking the stand during closing arguments on Thursday morning.

Hill, a quarterback at North High School, had left school in the middle of the day during a school-allowed release in February 2022. While Hill was out of class, he was shot and killed by Fohrenkam.

The shooting was caught on multiple surveillance videos presented by prosecutors in the case.

Hill’s mother told reporters she was glad they were available to view the videos in court, which could have been the determining factor in the case.

Speaking with reporters after the case was given to the jury, Hill’s mother thanked those in the community that have offered support throughout the last year.

“I love the community support, and thank you for doing the right thing,” Hill’s mother said.

Hill and his Polar football teammates were featured in a Showtime documentary that began airing a few weeks ago.

Sentencing for Fohrenkam has yet to be scheduled.  The max penalties for second-degree murder in the state of Minnesota could see him spend at maximum of 40 years behind bars.
