Federal authorities are getting involved to stop pervasive violence that has occurred in and around the area where George Floyd died.

38th and Chicago has been occupied by people who don't want a law enforcement presence. But today, Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo says the violence in that area must stop, and the intersection must reopen.

"I'm putting them on notice. Enough is enough. Our community will not tolerate this any longer."

The FBI, ATF and US Marshals will be partnering with Minneapolis Police, and federal charges could be filed against people who violate the law.

Earlier this month, a man was shot an killed at the intersection in what police say was a gang altercation.

While Arradondo says the intersection will be reopened soon, he did not give a specific timeline.

Mayor Jacob Frey and the Minneapolis City Council have been at odds over the future of the intersection.
