With the help of 12 Hennepin County district court judges, 24 couples are taking advantage of this romantic day to tie the knot in Minneapolis.
The couples include Ty and Cynthia.
“Well, we've been holding off for like 12, 13 years,” said Ty. “And we have a 12 year old right now. So we decided, you know, maybe it's the time.”
“Finally, finally after the pandemic and everything,” added Cynthia.
Tuesday marked the first time in two years that the county held its annual Valentine's Day Weddings in the Skyway common area of the Hennepin County Government Center. The weddings took place between 12:00-1:00p.m. and were free to the couples that signed up.
The event has become somewhat of a tradition in Hennepin County which started with free weddings focused on first responders and military members. In case you think it’s a bit of a cold space to be married in, they do provide some music for the ceremony.
If you're interested in signing up for 2024, you might want to look at booking it now as the event traditionally sells out quickly.
