While around 2,200 guests were invited to the Saturday coronation of King Charles III, per The Telegraph, many of them were from the U.K.
Not many high-profile guests from the U.S. attended the historic event. Here’s the list:
President Joe Biden was not in attendance, but his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, was. According to Town & Country, no sitting U.S. president has ever attended a coronation for a monarch of the U.K. When Queen Elizabeth was crowned in 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent a delegation lead by George C. Marshall, Army Chief of Staff during World War II, former Secretary of State, and former Secretary of Defense.

Jill Biden attended Saturday’s coronation with her granddaughter, Finnegan Biden. It included a ceremony at Westminster Abbey as well as a procession in London.
“The United States and the United Kingdom have a special relationship,” she said in a tweet. “It’s an honor to represent the United States on this historic day at Westminster Abbey.”
U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry also announced that he would attend the coronation. Kerry was to be in Berlin this week to participate in the Petersberg Climate Dialogue.

American pop star Katy Perry was also at the coronation.
“Was such an honor to be able to watch history being made today at the coronation of King Charles III!” she said in an Instagram post. “I am so grateful to have been invited by The King on behalf of the @thebritishasiantrust and their Children Protection Fund, an organization I’ve deeply believed in and have been fortunate to support for the last 3 years.”

According to its website, the British Asian Trust was founded in 2007 by King Charles and a group of British Asian business leaders to tackle widespread poverty, inequality and injustice in South Asia.
“My girl’s gonna be singing, that’s fun. I’m not gonna make it there, sadly, but she’s representing which is cool,” said Perry’s U.K.-born partner Orlando Bloom in an April interview with Entertainment Tonight. “She does those big, historical things. It’s wonderful. She sang for the president too. She does that.”
Another American entertainer present as Charles was crowned as king was singer Lionel Richie.

“We also continued the conversation about - The Prince’s Trust, which is empowering young people to transform their lives through education, training, and support. The Trust helps thousands of young people every day who are facing tremendous hardships. To date, we have supported over 1 million young people around the globe,” he said in an Instagram post.
The Prince’s Trust was founded by Charles in 1976, when he was still the Prince of Wales.
“Having completed his duty in the Royal Navy, HM The King Charles III became dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged young people in the U.K.,” according to its website. “He founded His Trust to deliver on that commitment.”
King Charles, 74, became the monarch of the U.K. when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died last September at age 96. She was the second-longest reigning monarch in world history.
