Given the many seasons and the show’s wild, time-traveling motif, a number of actors have played the quirky “Time Lord” space traveler. In fact there have been 14 different actors who’ve played the part over the years, and each has given the character their own spin.

Most recently, the role has been handed to the first Black actor to play the titular role, Ncuti Gatwa, who previously starred in the Netflix series, “Sex Education.” He’ll replace Jodie Whittaker who was herself the first female Doctor, and played the alien for five years.

Aside from the leads though, other notable actors have dropped in and out of the Doctor’s universe, some going on to greater fame and fortune than many of the show’s lead actors.

Using data from CelebrityNetWorth, here’s how much the wealthiest “Doctor Who” cast members are worth today, ranked.

Host Hugh Grant speaks on stage during the 2020 Laureus World Sports Awards at Verti Music Hall on February 17, 2020 in Berlin, Germany

1 Hugh Grant - $150 million

Much more known for his string of hit romantic comedies – and that infamous cheating scandal – nonetheless, Grant has played an alternative version of the Twelfth Doctor in a 1999 episode. He was earlier asked to play the Ninth Doctor, but turned it down thinking the rebooted show wouldn’t take off. He later expressed regret for that decision, as the show got more popular.

James Corden speaks onstage during the Simon Wiesenthal Center National Tribute Dinner at The Beverly Hilton on April 27, 2022 in Beverly Hills, California.

2 James Corden - $70 million

Also not the first name that pops into “Doctor Who” fans’ minds, the host of CBS’ “The Late Late Show” played Doctor Who’s friend, Craig Owens, in two episodes between 2010-11. Corden recently announced that next season will be his last on the talk show, so who knows, maybe he’ll sneak some guest appearances into “Doctor Who” again.

3 Billie Piper - $12 million

Starting as a pop singing sensation, in 1998 at the age of 15 Piper’s single, “Because We Want To,” made her the youngest female artist ever to enter at number one on the UK Singles Chart. She soon turned to acting though. She appeared as the Doctor’s main companion, Rose Tyler, in 37 episodes of the series between 2005 - 2006; and appeared briefly again in 2008, 2010, 2013.

4 Tom Baker - $10 million

Originally from Liverpool, and a member of the Royal National Theatre Company, Baker played the Doctor from 1964 until 1981 – the longest any actor claimed the role. Subsequently, in the minds of many longtime fans, he is perhaps the most iconic Doctor, remembered for his quirky clothing and love of Jelly Babies.

Actor Peter Capaldi speaks on stage during the panel discussion about 'Doctor Who' at the BFI & Radio Times TV Festival at BFI Southbank on April 9, 2017 in London, England.

5 Peter Capaldi - $10 million

Capaldi played the Twelfth Doctor, from 2014 to 2017. He’s had a string of successful British TV and film appearances, including portraying Mr. Curry in the recent “Paddington” movies.

Host Catherine Tate speaks on stage during The Olivier Awards with Mastercard at Royal Albert Hall on April 8, 2018 in London, England.

7 Catherine Tate - $8 million

Tate is perhaps best known to U.S. TV watchers as the crass Nellie Bertram on two seasons of the U.S. version of “The Office.” But right before that, the actress portrayed Donna Noble in one episode of “Doctor Who” and a Christmas special, both in 2006. She returned as a continuing companion to the Doctor in 2008.

Actor Paul McGann arrives for the film premiere of Christie Malry's "Own Double Entry" at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) August 15, 2002 in London, England.

8 Paul McGann - $7 million

In 1996, McGann became the eight incarnation of Doctor Who, and has developed a steady career as a character actor in many British films, including the cult classic, “Withnail and I.”

Actor David Tennant of the television show "Doctor Who" speaks during the BBC America portion of the 2009 Summer Television Critics Association Press Tour at the Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel on July 29, 2009 in Pasadena, California

9 David Tennant - $7 million

Starting in 2005, the Shakespearian actor began a five-year run as the Tenth Doctor. Among many other roles, Tennant played the villain Killgrave in the Marvel series for Netflix, “Jessica Jones." (2015–2019).

The first female Doctor in the "Doctor Who" series, Whittaker has also formed a reputation for intriguing roles in cult projects like “Attack the Block” and “The Black Mirror.” After three more episodes of “Doctor Who” this season, she will hand over the keys of the TARDIS to Ncuti Gatwa.

Christopher Eccleston speaks on stage during Fantastic! A Conversation with Christopher Eccleston at the New York Comic Con at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on October 03, 2019 in New York City.

11 Christopher Eccleston - $6 Million

Though he only played the Doctor for one season, in 2005, it was memorable, as the show had been off the air since 1996. Eccleston has since remained a fixture on British television.

Sylvester McCoy attends "An Accidental Studio" pre premiere screening at The Curzon Mayfair on March 27, 2019 in London, England

12 Sylvester McCoy - $4 million

While younger viewers might recognize McCoy as Radagast in “The Hobbit” film series of a few years ago, this Scottish actor played the Seventh Doctor from 1987 until 1989, which also marked the end of the original run of the series.

Richard E. Grant attends the European premiere of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" at Cineworld Leicester Square on December 18, 2019 in London, England

13 Richard E. Grant - $4 million

A venerated British film and stage actor who always brings his wickedly sly and sarcastic air to any role, Grant has played a number of small roles on "Doctor Who," and even voiced a version of the Ninth Doctor in the webcast animation, “Scream of the Shalka.”
