Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - With Matt Prater considered "week-to-week" due to a quad injury suffered in Sunday's win over the New England Patriots, the Buffalo Bills are in need of another kicker ahead of this week's matchup with the Cleveland Browns.
The Bills announced on Tuesday the signing of kicker Michael Badgley to the 16-man practice squad. To make room, the team released cornerback M.J. Devonshire.
The 30-year-old has spent the last eight seasons jumping around from team-to-team in the NFL. If he kicks for the Bills this coming Sunday, it will be the sixth team he's suited up for in his career.
Originally an undrafted free agent signing of Indianapolis in 2018, Badgley has spent time kicking for the Colts, as well as the Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions. He also spent a brief period of time on the Washington Commanders' practice squad.
In 71 career games played, Badgley has converted on 83.1% of his field goal attempts and 94.9% of his extra point attempts. The longest field goal of his career, to this point, has been from 59 yards out.
Badgley will replace Prater, at least, this week, who has been stellar for the Bills at the age of 41. In 14 games played with the Bills this season, Prater has hit on 90% of his field goals attempted and 93.5% of his extra point attempts. His longest field goal kick this season has come from 52 yards away.
Prater was signed just before the start of the 2025 season after Tyler Bass was placed on Injured Reserve due to a pelvic injury. Bills head coach Sean McDermott has already confirmed that Bass will remain on Injured Reserve the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to address his issues.
