Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills are off to the AFC Championship Game for the second time in five seasons after their nail-biting 27-25 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at Highmark Stadium.
It was Buffalo getting out to the solid start in this contest, not only leading 21-10 at halftime, but also forcing the Ravens offense into two first-half turnovers. This included a Taylor Rapp interception of Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, followed by a Jackson fumble that was returned by Von Miller into scoring territory.
While the Ravens battled back in the second half, the Bills still managed to stay ahead, thanks to two field goals from Tyler Bass to make it 27-19 with 3:29 to go in the game.
Buffalo also got some help by forcing a third turnover of the game, as linebacker Terrel Bernard stripped the football from Ravens tight end Mark Andrews, and recovered the fumble himself.
Baltimore was then able to stretch 88 yards down the field, and a Jackson touchdown to tight end Isaiah Likely gave the Ravens a chance to tie the game with 1:33 to go in regulation.
However, on the ensuing two-point conversion, a pass from Jackson to Andrews at the goal line fell incomplete, putting the Bills in the driver's seat to eventually close out the victory in Orchard Park.
Despite the Bills being undefeated at home, head coach Sean McDermott knew how much of a challenge the Ravens would be, especially come playoff time.
"They're well-coached. John [Harbaugh] does a great job, he and his staff. And then Lamar and what he does for the offense, special teams. They're talented", said McDermott following Sunday's win.
McDermott also knows that winning in the postseason never comes easy. To do it against a tough customer in the Ravens is a motivational victory going into the AFC Championship Game.
"Overall, great win. Great win for the organization, for our fans. I couldn't be happier," McDermott said.
