Sources: Bills restructure linebacker Matt Milano's contract

The restructure eliminates one year off Milano's contract, making a free agent come 2026

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills are restructuring the contract of veteran linebacker Matt Milano, free up roughly $3 million of salary cap space in 2025.

As part of the restructure for Milano, it will trim a year off his contract, meaning he now only has one more year remaining before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2026.

The Bills orginally signed Milano to a contract extension just before the 2023 season that locked him to Buffalo through the 2026 season.

Over the past two years, Milano has struggled to stay healthy with a pair of significant injuries. Back in 2023, Milano suffered a season-ending leg injury in a Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, England. This past season saw Milano suffer a torn bicep right before the season started that kept him out until Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Despite the injuries, Milano started four games in 2024, recording two fumble recoveries and 16 tackles in that time. He also started in all three playoff games for the Bills, recording two sacks and 17 total tackles.

The 30-year-old linebacker is a former fifth-round pick (163rd overall) of the Bills in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Boston College. His best season, to date, has been the 2022 season, where he was an Associated Press First-Team All-Pro after recording 99 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, 1.5 sacks, 11 passes defended, three interceptions (one pick-six) and two fumble recoveries.
