Adams: Everything still on table with Skinner's future

Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams joined "Sabres Live" live from Las Vegas on Thursday

Las Vegas, Nev. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Sabres are just about 24 hours away from kicking off their 2024 NHL Draft with the 14th overall selection in Round 1.

The Sabres were originally supposed to select 11th overall heading into Friday's first round, but they ended up swinging a deal with the San Jose Sharks to not only move down three selections, but also acquire another second-round pick (42nd overall).

Despite sliding down the board after the trade with San Jose, Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams feels confident that his staff is ready to make their first-round selection, no matter who that player happens to be.

"When we get to the draft, we’re, I’d say, 95% with our list”, said Adams during an appearance on "Sabres Live" from Las Vegas. "I find these last few days before the draft critically important to have the debates, and you may just be talking about one spot… [Noah] Oslund, that happened a few years ago, we made one tweak the morning of the draft, and it ended up where we got him (16th overall in 2022)."

Outside of this weekend's draft, the other big offseason story so far for the Sabres has been reports over the team planning to buy out the final three years of forward Jeff Skinner's contract.

However, Adams is still not ready yet to reveal any final determination on Skinner’s future with the Sabres.

"No final decisions have been made. We are continuing to have conversations internally and externally," Adams said with Brian Duff and Marty Biron. "In terms of the specific buyout, like I said, everything is on the table. We’re open to everything, and everything we are looking to do is to help this team get better."
