Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – The Buffalo Sabres have had a busy Tuesday of re-signing their own players. First it was forward Zemgus Girgensons, and then it was forward Lukas Rousek, who inks a two-year deal with an average annual value of $775,000.
Rousek was drafted by the Sabres in the sixth round (160th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft and has spent the last two seasons playing in North America.
After recovering from offseason knee surgery last season, the Czech winger played 19 regular season games with the Rochester Americans, scoring a goal and adding three assists for four points. In the playoffs, though, Rousek showed his potential with six points (2+4) in 10 games played.

This past season saw the 24-year-old make his NHL debut with the Sabres, where he scored a goal during his first NHL shift against the Montreal Canadiens on March 27. In his two games played in Buffalo this year, he had a goal and an assist.
While in Rochester, Rousek appeared in 70 games for the Amerks, where he produced incredibly well with 16 goals and 40 assists for 56 points. In 14 playoff games, Rousek performed admirably again with 12 points (5+7) in 14 games for Rochester.
Rousek was set to be a restricted free agent this offseason when the new league year opens on July 1. There is a chance Rousek will compete for a roster spot with the Sabres at the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
