Cross the biggest star on the Red Sox off the list of players who'll be attending the White House ceremony honoring their World Series championship.
American League MVP Mookie Betts told the Boston Globe that he'll be staying behind when the Red Sox visit the White House in May.
"I won't be going there," Betts told the paper. "I decided not to."
Betts specified no reason for declining to attend, but he wouldn't be the first high-profile athlete to skip since Donald Trump was inaugurated. No NBA team has taken part in the ceremony since, and Tom Brady was among the roughly 25 Patriots who skipped in 2017.
Betts spoke on Saturday night at the New York Baseball Writers' Dinner, where he officially received his MVP award.
