It doesn't appear as though the Red Sox and Mookie Betts have been close when it comes to contract negotiations.
According to Lou Merloni, the Red Sox have made extension offers to Betts in each of the last three offseasons, with last year's proposal coming at 10 years, $300 million. Betts, however, countered with an asking price of 12 years, $420 million.
While the Red Sox have made it point to state that they aren't actively looking to trade Betts -- who will make $27 million in 2020 and is eligible for free agency after next season -- they have been opening to listening to proposals. Recently reports surfaced that detailed discussions with the Padres and Dodgers have taken place.
