It looks like Ben Watson will finish his NFL career where it began.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the veteran tight end plans on signing with the Patriots after visiting the team earlier in the day. The report adds there are a few issues to work through, but those won’t hold up the deal.
Watson was drafted by the team in the first round of the 2004 draft.
ESPN's Adam Schefter says it is a one-year deal worth $3 million.
In 16 games last season with the Saints, Watson had 35 catches for 400 yards and two touchdowns. After the year he announced his retirement, but recently expressed the desire to return. Given he would like to win another title (although he was injured) before he retires, this signing makes a lot of sense.
The Patriots do not have much depth at tight end, as right now it is just Seferian-Jenkins, Watson, Stephen Anderson, Matt LaCosse, Ryan Izzo and Andrew Beck.
