Over the weekend, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young won the Heisman Trophy. It was the first time a quarterback at the school has won the award.
Appearing on Merloni & Fauria Monday, Mac Jones, who finished second a year ago, reacted to his former teammate winning the award.
“We’re close. I text him probably once a week, or more than that, and just talk to him and all that," he said. "I am super happy for him and his family. I think that’s something that is just really cool. We’ve had great quarterbacks there and to be the first quarterback to win, it’s a big deal. He definitely deserves it and he’s fought really hard this year. They had the early loss and after that he’s played the best he can. That’s all you can ask for and he’s a great teammate to me, too. I am super happy for him.”
Young could be the next Alabama quarterback in the NFL that now includes Jones, Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa.
“I think, not to talk about the past, but everyone is a little different and everyone is a great quarterback," Jones said. "Hopefully we’ll get a chance to play in the NFL for a long time. Everyone, like I said, we’re different players and everyone brings their different thing to the table.”
Alabama will take on Cincinnati in one of the College Football Playoff semifinals on New Year's Eve.
