FOXBOROUGH — The comparisons to Tom Brady for Mac Jones have already begun. Heck, they started even before he was drafted by the Patriots.
While Jones isn’t immediately following Brady in New England, the rookie was asked about the standard that comes with playing quarterback for the Patriots, which was of course set by Brady.
"I think, obviously, he's a great player," Jones said Wednesday. "The word 'standard' kind of hit me there because we all want to play to that standard, 'The Patriot Way.' Really, it comes down to just doing your job, so as a quarterback that's leading the people around me as best as I can and that's also executing the plays.”
Has he thought about it all even once?
“He definitely did a good job,” Jones said. “When I first got here just watching tape, I watched all the quarterbacks. So obviously he was on there and he did a really, really good job. Hopefully I can do a good job too.”
Obviously, Jones has some big shoes to fill. But, based on what he said Wednesday and over the course of the summer, he’s not putting much pressure on himself and truly is taking things one day at a time.
Jones and the Patriots will host the Dolphins Sunday afternoon.
