It's clear Stephon Gilmore isn't happy with his $7.5 million salary, but at least at this point doesn't seem like enough for him to be traded by the Patriots.
With that being said, who knows what will happen when the two sides negotiate a new deal/raise for 2021, so that shouldn't completely be ruled out.
So, what could the Patriots get for Gilmore?
Appearing on The Ken & Curtis Show Saturday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler gave his thoughts.
“It would have to be the right defense, the right time — a contending team — certainly there’s value," he said. "Just at that age I don’t know if it’s a first-round pic or not. It would be a good pick. It would be like, Julio Jones was worth a two and a three in part because you’re giving up that big salary. It wouldn’t shock me to see him something close to that. I would say Gilmore ranks in the cornerback pantheon around the same place as Julio Jones does right now. Jones is two years older. There would be good value.
"I just don’t know if a team would be willing to give up a first right now because of the money you’d have to pay on a new deal. … I would probably say like a two and another pick — a two and a four, a two and a three, something like that.”
Training camp will begin July 28, which could be a build-in deadline for Gilmore and the Patriots to work something out.
