It’s only the middle of November, but it seems like the Patriots will be in the market for a quarterback in next year’s draft.

No matter how the rest of the season goes, it’s seems unlikely they will be picking in the top five, so Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields are not possibilities, but one player to keep an eye on is BYU’s Zach Wilson.

Wilson is a junior, so he would need to leave school early, but he’s having a great season so far. Through eight games, he’s completed 75 percent of his passes for 2,512 yards to go along with 22 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

The QB has been connected to the Patriots wherever they pick in the first round and appearing on CBS Sports Radio’s Zach Gelb Show, Wilson was asked about potentially being drafted by them.

“If that is the team that wants me I’ll give it everything I have,” he said. “And even if Cam [Newton] was still there when I went into that situation, what a great quarterback to learn from. What a great guy to sit behind and experience the way he’s experienced the game and learn from all his mistakes and the things he’s had success with as well. [Bill] Belichick is a great coach and they are going to be on top again one day.”

Wilson was also asked for his thoughts on the Patriots’ most recent quarterbacks — Newton and Tom Brady.

“I think Brady is phenomenal,” he said. “I think you have to give him so much credit for his career. So many people talk about Belichick and the things that he has done, I think it’s there, but I think the competitive spirit is what makes Tom Brady special. That guy just seems like the most competitive guy out there. He gives it everything that he has and I feel like he relates a lot to Drew Brees, and I was able to meet him. I feel like he just wants to be the best so bad. Really, there’s nothing special about him physically, right? That’s why he’s not my favorite to watch because there’s really nothing special, but he always gets the job done.

“And Cam Newton, he’s got a chip on his shoulders. He’s got a ton to prove and I loved what I saw from him in the first couple of games. I haven’t watched their past recent games. I know they haven’t been winning like he wants to, but I know he’s a competitor as well and he has a lot to prove about himself and about the Patriots as a team. I know Cam Newton is probably going to come back and he’s going to find his way as a quarterback again like he used to be.”
