FOXBOROUGH -- Prior to Sunday, Patriots offensive tackle Trent Brown played just seven snaps this season due to a calf injury suffered in the first quarter against the Dolphins.

Brown returned Sunday against the Browns and played 46-of-67 snaps.

“Honestly, I was excited,” he said following the game, acknowledging he was told Friday he would get the start. “And then to get out there today — I forgot how fun it is. It feels like it’s been three years since I’ve played ball and had fun playing ball.”

The 28-year-old said he didn't expect to be out for so long.

“Initially, I was really trying my best, and we were trying our best, to have me back for — it was a push for the Saints game (in Week 3), and it was a possibility for the Bucs,” Brown said. “But I kind of tweaked (the calf) again that Bucs week, and that was the final straw. They went ahead and put me on IR for those couple weeks. It’s unfortunate, but I’m glad to be back.”

With Brown returning, but not playing the entire game, the Patriots stuck to a 1-for-1 switch with Michael Onwenu only playing 26 snaps and Ted Karras staying inside the entire game. We'll see how things go moving forward and if the team kicks Onwenu back inside now that Brown has a game back under his belt.

New England has a short week coming up as it will travel to Atlanta Thursday night.
