This is the kind of miraculous Sox season that nobody could have seen coming and everyone wants to see continue. Well, now the stats back up the notion that the 2021 Red Sox could be playing well into into October.
Yes, friends, to borrow some phrasing from The Wells Report, it “is more probable than not” the Red Sox both make the playoffs AND win the AL East. Pretty impressive for a team that went 24-36 in 2020. Sure, the manager was suspended/dismissed, they had no pitching and COVID spoiled the party. Still, this turnaround continues to be exciting and unbelievable with every one-run victory.
If the Red Sox play .500 the rest of the way, they’re on pace to win 93 games, which should be good for a playoff opportunity. There could be some regression and another AL East team could catch fire. Then again, Chris Sale is scheduled to return soon and perhaps Chaim Bloom has a trade or two up his sleeve. And there’s the MLB Draft in a couple of days, which could see a major league ready talent selected fourth overall. Plus, this fun loving bunch seems pretty confident in themselves, too.
Translation: There’s reason to believe, Sox fans. And now you’ve got more than just faith and belief on your side, you’ve got the numbers, too.
