Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani have completed their resumes for the AL MVP, with Judge using the penultimate day of the regular season to cement his case in the form of his historic 62nd home run.
The debates will rage on until the winner is announced, with many of our own on-air hosts declaring that the clear winner should be Judge, while former teammates of Judge like CC Sabathia says the honor should go to Ohtani.
What do active MVP winners think?
In a poll conducted by The Athletic, the vast majority say Judge should take home the award after setting a new American League home run record while coming up just short of the Triple Crown. Aside from Mike Trout, who essentially declined to answer directly, every active MVP polled said Judge should be the winner.
Joey Votto said “Aaron Judge has been clearly better,” noting Judge’s superior WAR stats this season, while Clayton Kershaw noted the team success differences. Mookie Betts said he would pick Judge if he had a vote, while a former MVP in Chipper Jones also made it clear who he thinks should win.
“Judge,” Jones said. “End of discussion!”
