(BetMGM/WGR 550) - Sunday night's AFC East showdown between the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins in South Florida will be the 26th and final 2023 NFL regular season game played in December or January, in which, at least, one team entered with a winning streak of, at least, three games.

Meaning: It’ll be the 26th late-season game with a hot team.

Entering Week 18, 22 of those games have already been played. The other three — Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Rams at San Francisco 49ers, and Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals — are scheduled for Saturday and prior to the Bills-Dolphins kickoff on Sunday night.

The hot team is 11-11 in those games this season. Because a majority of those teams are favorites (14-of-22) with plus odds, the moneyline ROI is -16.8%. The winning percentage would be the worst in five years and fourth-worst in 20 years. While the ROI would be the worst in five years and fifth-worst in 20 years.

Against the spread, they’re also losing money this season: 10-12 (.455) with an ROI of -13.3.%. That’s also on pace for the worst ATS winning percentage and ROI in five years.

As of Tuesday’s NFL odds at BetMGM, the Bills are three-point spread favorites and -165 moneyline favorites in Miami Gardens.
