CROMWELL, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - An officer-involved shooting is under investigation after a shot was fired Tuesday during a police pursuit of a man under probation, according to Cromwell police.
Captain Kevin VanderSloot says town police were assisting probation officers conduct a probation check on Samuel Moore, 36, at his residence in a condominium on Salem Drive around 9:55 a.m. VanderSloot says Moore tried to flee the area as officers were setting up a perimeter.
A shot was fired when Moore came in contact with a police officer outside the perimeter, VanderSloot says.
He says Moore continued to flee in a vehicle after the round was discharged.
Moore later got into a car accident where two civilians were involved, VanderSloot says, and fled again on foot.
VanderSloot says police were able to locate and take Moore into custody after the accident.
The two civilians were transported for precautionary medical treatment, he says.
According to VanderSloot, State Police and Waterbury's Attorney's Office are investigating the police officer's use of force. The police officer is on administrative leave pending the investigation.
He says police are in the process of obtaining the officer's body cam footage of the incident.
