HAMDEN, CONN (WTIC Radio)-Nearly a million dollars in federal funds will help the Police Department upgrade its public safety communications system.
Mayor Lauren Garrett said the system now is old and needs updating.
The money will be used to purchase equipment to help police investigate and prevent crime and to respond to emergencies
and natural disasters. It's also expected to help eliminate dead spots during radio transmissions.
Third District Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro secured the funding.
Police Chief Edward Page Reynolds said he hopes the upgrade can be implemented before the end of the year.
