Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - A Danielson contractor has had his home improvement registration revoked by the state Department of Consumer Protection and has been ordered to pay fines and restitution after performing unlicensed HVAC work that led to damage to consumers' homes.
The decision came down today on Justin Lanno.
“Many families suffered substantial financial harm and distress as a result of the irresponsible actions of Mr. Lanno and CT Heat Pros in these cases. While this judgement can’t undo that damage, hopefully it will help these consumers recover,” said DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli. “The department is aware of other consumers that may have been adversely affected by the conduct of Justin Lanno and CT Heat Pros that were not named in this complaint. We will continue to pursue those investigations and administrative actions as appropriate.”
The action stems from over two dozen complaints the department initially received in 2021 against CT Heat Pros LLC.
After the department issued a request for any additional complaints, 40 more were received alleging improper or incomplete installations of cooling and heating units, piping water leaks and overall shoddy workmanship, among other things.
Lanno was never licensed to perform occupational work as a registered home improvement contractor, said DCP.
The department advises consumers to be aware that anyone doing installations must be licensed through them and that home improvement contractors aren't permitted to do licensed trade work like plumbing and electrical without being properly licensed.
DCP is working with impacted consumers to obtain payment for restitution, which includes help in submitting applications through the Home Improvement Guaranty Fund.
