HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Immigration and Customs Enforcement out of Boston says it's apprehended a Brazilian national convicted in Connecticut of sexual assault and other offenses.
They say Emerson Eduardo Ferreira, 52, was picked up in the eastern Connecticut Town of Brooklyn on January 24, 2025, after his release from state custody.
Ferreira, who entered the U.S. legally in 1999, violated terms of his entry, according to ICE.
In 2023, he was convicted on sexual assault, unlawful restraint, and two counts of violation of a protective order.
He was sentenced to 18 years in prison, suspended after four years and followed by ten years on probation.
ICE says it issued an immigration detainer against Ferreira last April with the Connecticut Department of Correction and served him with a notice to appear before a department of justice immigration judge after arresting him.
Ferreira remains in ICE custody.
