Injured brown pelican saved in Essex

ESSEX, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ The Connecticut Audubon Society launched rescue efforts to help an injured bird in the Connecticut River.

A Brown Pelican, rare to this area, was found injured on the Connecticut River in Essex on Wednesday.


EcoTravel Director Andy Griswold had gotten received word that the bird was in the area.

Once Griswold found it, two DEEP Rescuers gently corralled the bird against a floating dock and rescued it.

The pelican was taken to A Place Called Hope, a bird rehabilitation center in nearby Killingworth.

Brown Pelicans are southern coastal birds that rarely travel further north than Virginia Beach, Va.
