New Haven, Conn./WTIC Radio - Police in New Haven are investigating the city's first homicide of 2024.
On Friday around 2:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to a home on Carmel Avenue near Whalley Avenue and Percival Street.
When they arrived, police found a 45-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound.
Officers provided aid to the victim until fire and emergency personnel arrived.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were able to retrieve ballistic evidence as part of their investigation.
They've not yet released the victim's name, nor have they indicated if they have any suspects in mind or a motive for the shooting.
In 2023, overall shootings were down but homicides ticked up from 16 to 23.
