It would not be surprising for residents of New London to exclaim "Good God" upon hearing about the Connecticut community's latest expenditure.
Weeks after the collapse of the town's nearly two-century-old First Congregational Church, New London has announced that taxpayers will cover the cost of the cleanup.
Cleaning up collapsed churches does not come cheap these days. The tab picked up by New London adds up to roughly $244,000.
So, even for those New Londoners who gave alms when the church was standing, it is again the season of giving.
