Hartford Police say the suspect in the Wednesday night double shooting that killed a woman and injured another on Magnolia Street is dead.
Chad Petitpas, 46, of Uncasville, was found to be staying at a hotel in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Police went to the hotel, where officers were prepared to serve him with an arrest warrant on charges of murder, assault, risk of injury, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, and reckless endangerment.
The hotel was evacuated, except for the room where Petitpas was staying.
Massachusetts State Police established contact with Petitpas and attempted to negotiate his surrender. But, Petitpas remained barricaded and refused to exit.
After a standoff that lasted several hours, police found Petitpas dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions continue to investigate this incident.
