the greg hill show: A former Patriots great sends shots Bill's way
The Patriots’ new-look defensive staff under head coach Jerod Mayo and coordinator DeMarcus Covington continues to come to fruition, with another addition reported on Sunday.
Following the hiring of Dont’a Hightower as inside linebackers coach on Friday, New England has now hired Drew Wilkins as outside linebackers coach , according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
When the Patriots added Hightower last week, SI's Albert Breer reported that the team is looking at him to serve as inside linebackers coach and that the hiring of an outside linebackers coach may be on the horizon. They now make that happen with Wilkins.
A University of Maryland grad, Wilkins coached for 12 seasons with the Ravens from 2010-2021, winning Super Bowl XLVII with the club in 2013. He served as their outside linebackers coach for two seasons in Baltimore from 2020 and 2021, and worked with now-Patriots OLB Matthew Judon on his way to two Pro Bowls. Wilkins had been with the Giants for the last two seasons under defensive coordinator Wink Martindale in the same role.
Here’s a look at the Patriots all-but complete staff:
-- DeMarcus Covington, defensive coordinator
-- Jerry Montgomery, defensive line
-- Mike Pellegrino, cornerbacks
-- Brian Belichick, safeties
-- Dont'a Hightower, inside linebackers
-- Drew Wilkins, outside linebackers
