6 rings: Mike Kadlick had some concerns about the 2024 quarterback class
The Patriots are now in the process of filling out their offensive staff following the hiring of coordinator Alex Van Pelt on Thursday.
According to SI's Albert Breer, New England is "in talks" to hire ex-Giants head coach Ben McAdoo to their offensive staff. McAdoo's role in Foxborough will reportedly be to "play an assistant head coach type of role, and help [Van Pelt] on that side of the ball."
McAdoo has been coaching in the NFL since 2004, starting as an offensive quality control coach with the New Orleans Saints. He then coached with the 49ers in 2005 as an assistant offensive line coach before heading to the Packers for the next eight seasons. McAdoo served as tight ends coach (2006-2011) and quarterbacks coach (2012-13) in Green Bay, overlapping with Pats OC Alex Van Pelt on the staff.
Following two successful seasons, McAdoo was hired by Tom Coughlin as the Giants' offensive coordinator, a position he held for two seasons before becoming their head coach following Coughlin's resignation.
In his first season as the main man, the then-39-year-old led New York to an 11-5 record and a playoff appearance before losing to the Packers 38-13 on Wild Card weekend. After a 2-10 start to the 2015 season, McAdoo was fired.
The offensive coach has since worked with the Jaguars (quarterbacks coach, 2020), Cowboys (consultant, 2021), and Panthers (offensive coordinator, 2022). McAdoo now enters Foxborough in the midst of what ownership has described as "the most anticipated NFL Draft of our tenure."
It was also reported that the Patriots are targeting former Seahawks and Rams assistant Andy Dickerson as their offensive line coach.
