DETROIT (WWJ) - A wide-ranging Boil Water Advisory for a large area just east of Downtown Detroit has been lifted.
The 42-inch water main broke Saturday night near the intersection of McDougall and Larned streets. After isolating the problem, workers installed in a new section of pipe on Monday.
Officials said Tuesday morning that the most recent round of testing shows no bacterial contamination in the water supply. Two rounds of multiple samples from Cobo Center and fire stations were tested, with results indicating the water meets the state drinking standards.
The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department recommends that if water has not been used for six hours or more, water should run from the tap until it is cold. Then, continue to run for an additional two minutes for fresh water.
The boundaries of the advisory extended from I-75 Fisher Freeway south to the Detroit River and from the Lodge Freeway (M-10) to Mt. Elliott Street.
Water main break east of downtown reportedly fixed; Testing, water quality issues remain.
