(WWJ) A couple of fishermen are lucky to be alive after their boat capsized in Lake Huron overnight.
Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard say the men set off on a fishing trip in an 18-foot boat Thursday morning; and when they didn't return, one of their daughters reported them missing at 11:30 p.m.
"According to one of the survivors, they stated that the vessel took a wave over the side, which swamped and capsized the vessel at aproximately 10 o'clock that morning," said Coast Guard Petty Officer Nathan Singer.
The men were recovered at around 2 a.m. Friday, in the dark.
"They were able to survive because they were wearing life jackets, they stayed with their boat by sitting on the hull, and they had a flashlight to shine at the U.S. Coast Guard helicopter. This light assisted the searches in finding them!" the Coast Guard said, in a Facebook post featuring photos of the rescue.
"This case had a great ending, and can be accredited to both people wearing life jackets, filing a float plan, and having a flashlight as an additional life saving device."
In many cases, Singer said, boaters have life vests on board but don't wear them.
One of the men, he told WWJ, is being treated for server hypothermia. No names were released.
