(WWJ) There was an earlier-than-expected alarm clock for thousands of people living in Redford Township and Livonia this morning.

Emergency sirens were blaring around 5:30 a.m. and then again around 6:45 a.m.

Police said their phone lines lit up with questions and concerns.

But what was it? Redford Township police say there appears to have been a malfunction with an emergency siren.  They are investigating how to address the situation.

People living near Inkster and Seven, Six and Five Mile roads heard the sirens.

People sounded off on the siren on the Redford Township Police Facebook page, saying it was jarring at the least.

"It has been on for almost 20 minutes straight this second round," Diana Ashby wrote. "What is involved in turning them off? Why is it taking so long? I understand sometimes mistakes or malfunctions happen, but shouldn't there be a way to turn them off faster?"

Tamika Webb noted that the anniversary of the 9/11 was not the best day for a scare of this nature.

"Thanks for the alarm clock that I couldn't shut off," she wrote. "Plus it's 9/11. Not the best day for rogue alarms."
