DETROIT (WWJ) -- A man is in critical condition after being shot twice in Midtown Detroit Wednesday afternoon.

Police tell WWJ the 30-year-old victim had gotten into an altercation with another man in the 3800 block of Woodward Avenue, just north of Mack Avenue around 12:40 p.m. That's when the suspect, who police said is a 25-year-old black man, pulled out a gun and fired two shots at the victim, striking him in the face and lower back.

The victim was taken to a hospital and was listed in critical condition.

The suspect tried to flee the scene but was arrested a short time later in the 4200 block of Woodward, between Willis and Canfield Streets. The weapon was recovered, police said.

Police did not disclose any details about what led to the altercation or shooting, but WXYZ in Detroit reported that the two were arguing over a pair of gym shoes while on a bus in the area.

Woodward was closed for a short time while police investigated at the scene. The avenue has reopened, but police are continuing to investigate the incident.
