WARREN (WWJ) - A man who held police at bay for hours in Warren following a domestic incident with his ex-girlfriend is facing multiple criminal charges.
Thirty-year-old William Speshock was arraigned Friday on charges of unlawful imprisonment, assault with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of felony firearm. Bond was set at $1 million.
Police and prosecutors allege that Speshock contacted his ex-girlfriend late Wednesday and asked her to come to their former shared home on Jewett Street, in the area of Hoover and 9 Mile Road, to remove her belongings. When the 29-year-old victim arrived and stated she did not want to get back together or move back into the home, Speshock allegedly became upset. He then retrieved a handgun from a dresser drawer, according to police, held it to the victim's head and made her get into her vehicle so that he could drive them to a home in Eastpointe.
Once they got to the home, the victim quickly exited the vehicle, ran inside and called 911. At the same time, Speshock drove away from the scene in the victim's vehicle.
Police located the vehicle in a garage at the home in Warren and were able to establish phone contact with Speshock. After a five-and-a-half hour standoff, police were able to take Speshock into custody without further incident.
"The fact that this suspect was apprehended following a lengthy stand-off situation with police, without further incident, is a testament to the outstanding efforts by the Warren Police Department and their negotiations team," Prosecutor Eric Smith said in a statement. "My office will prosecute this case to the fullest extent under the law based on the heinous nature of this defendant's actions."
Speshock's next court date wasn't immediately released.
