CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - A Macomb County man has been charged with murder after authorities say he shot his wife in the head at close range.
Kyle Wonsowicz, 26, was scheduled to be arraigned in 41-B District Court Tuesday in connection with the death of 26-year-old Nicole Larocca at the couple's Clinton Township home over the weekend.
According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, police had been called to the house near 14 Mile and Gratiot Ave., early Sunday evening, on reports of loud arguing and shots fired.
Officers arrived on the first call to find both the defendant and the victim "in good spirits," claiming that no domestic violence had occurred. In fact, they were barbecuing and enjoying a bonfire, police said.
Later that night, officers following up on a second round of calls found Wonsowicz in the front yard wearing only his boxer shorts while "holding and racking a shotgun." Officers were able to take the defendant to the ground and arrest him, prosecutors said.
Inside the house, police found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head.
Conscious, but unable to speak, Larocca was treated at the scene before she was rushed to a local hospital where she died.
Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith has charged Wonsowicz with second degree murder and using a firearm in commission of a felony.
It's unclear at this time what circumstances led up to the killing.
Wonsowicz faces possible life in prison if convicted.
"The disregard for human life displayed by this defendant is appalling," said Smith, in a media release. "The sad irony is that October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Yet, in the past week and a half, my office has received three cases of domestic violence resulting in murder."
