CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - An elderly woman who was trapped in a vehicle that went off the road in Clinton Township has died.
The crash happened around 5 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of 15 Mile and Garfield roads.
Police say the woman's husband was behind the wheel when the vehicle went off the roadway and struck a utility pole, which then came toppling down on of the couple's car.
The pair was trapped in their vehicle until officials could cut power to the utility line. They were extracted from their car and transported to the hospital, where the woman later died.
Investigators still haven't determined if the man had a medical issue or was possibly trying to avoid something in the road when he lost control. His current condition is unknown.
Police are currently trying to find surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses as the investigation continues.
