WARREN (WWJ) - A 30-year-old man is in custody after barricading himself inside a home in Warren for nearly five hours overnight.
The incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. Thursday at a home on Jewett Street, in the area of Hoover and 9 Mile Road.
Officers surrounded the home and closed off nearby streets following a domestic incident in which the suspect armed himself.
Police negotiated with the suspect for about five hours until he eventually surrendered.
"Excellent job by our negotiators," said Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer. "He came out with no shots fired, the weapon recovered, and he'll be taken in for felonious assault."
Investigators say the suspect has an extensive criminal record, including drug charges.
The incident remains under investigation.
