DETROIT (WWJ) - A teen is jailed on a felony charge after authorities say he grabbed a little girl from her backyard in Southwest Detroit.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Wednesday announced the case against 17-year-old Fernando San-Miguel -- whom police say was scared off by the victim's older sister.

It's alleged that, at around 3:20 p.m. last Sunday, the 5-year-old victim and her 11-year-old sister were outside their home in the 1100 block of Wheelock, near W. Layfayett and I-75.

When the older child went to retrieve a ball from the front yard, it is alleged that the defendant ran past her into the backyard.

The 11-year-old girl told police she heard the defendant call to her 5-year-old sister. It's alleged that he picked up the 5-year-old, placed her over a back fence into a neighbor's yard and then jumped the fence himself.

When the 11-year-old sister yelled at him, prosecutors say, San-Miguel put the girl back in her yard before leaving the scene on foot.

San-Miguel, a Detroit resident, was arrested following a Detroit police investigation and charged by Worthy with one one count of Kidnapping – Child Enticement.

Bond was set at $500,000 cash/surety at an arriangment Wednesday afternoon in 36th District Court.

San-Miguel will be back in court for a probable cause conference on March 12, followed by a preliminary exam scheduled for March 19, both before Judge Michael Wagner.
