(WWJ) - Thousands of people across metro Detroit are still without power after gusty thunderstorms passed through the area overnight.
As of early Tuesday morning, DTE Energy said 15,000 power outages remain. That's down from a peak of 40,000 during the height of the storm.
Winds of more than 40 miles per hour were reported in some areas during the storms Monday. Areas hit particularly hard include Romulus, White Lake and Highland Township
DTE spokesperson Cynthia Hecht said the storm hit as crews were already working to restore power to about 21,000 customers who lost electricity after Sunday's severe weather.
Hecht said crews are working around the clock and will hopefully get power restored to everyone by the end of Tuesday.
Meantime, forecasters say there is a slight chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon, but no severe weather is expected.
