A 15 year-old is dead, his sister injured, after being shot inside their home on Detroit's west side

DETROIT (WWJ) – Tragedy for a family on Detroit's west side after a double shooting leaves a teenager dead.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting Sunday, June 29, around 5:30 p.m. in the area of Schoolcraft and Mark Twain.

Detroit Police Captain Marcus Thirlkill told reporters a 15 year-old and his 13 year-old sister were shot inside their home.

The 15 year-old was taken to a local hospital where he died. Investigators say the 13 year-old was grazed by a bullet.

Other children and adults were inside the home at the time of the shooting. They were not hurt.

Police do not have a suspect or suspects in custody, but investigators believe the suspect is known to the victims.

No motive has been released.

This is the second deadly shooting involving children in the city in less than a week.

A 4 year-old, 17 year-old and 18 year-old were killed in a shooting near Denby High School on Kelly near Morang, on Friday, June 27, around 6:30 p.m.

In response to the violence, local community groups say they will join forces to launch an initiative, aimed at providing support for all Detroit kids ages 12-17.
