(WWJ) – Another Air Quality Alert will be in effect across Michigan on what is expected to be a hot and hazy Tuesday in Metro Detroit.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy has declared Tuesday an Air Quality Action Day as smoke from the wildfires in western Canada returns to the area.

The smoke is impacting fine particulate (PM2.5) concentrations at the surface in Minnesota and Wisconsin. As it reaches Michigan on Tuesday, EGLE officials say the Air Quality Index is expected to increase and reach the "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" level for much of Michigan.

The National Weather Service says this will be the 28th Air Quality Alert issued in Michigan this year.

High temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s on Tuesday, with an AccuWeather RealFeel temperature of 93 degrees.

Officials are asking Michiganders to reduce or eliminate activities that contribute to air pollution -- like outdoor burning and refueling your car.

Meanwhile, sensitive groups – including those with lung disease, asthma, heart disease, children and older adults – should limit heavy exertion.

Windows should be kept closed overnight to prevent smoke from getting inside.

More information on air quality can be found on the EGLE website.
