(WWJ) An arrest has been made in connection with a bomb threat at Michigan's State Capitol.
The Michigan Attorney General's Office says charges could be brought Friday against 48-year-old Michael Varrone, of Eaton County's Charlotte.
A day after a violent mob of Trump supporters stormed into the U.S. Capitol Building where they broke windows, confronted police, and stormed into congressional offices, Michigan State Police responded to a threat in Lansing.
The AG's Office says Varrone allegedly telephoned a control operator at the Capitol complex, and said everyone needed to evacuate because the building was going to explode. The employee immediately reported the threat to State Police.
An alert was sent to workers at the Capitol, telling them to stay away; although most were already working from home.
State Police investigators and bomb-sniffing dogs were on the scene, mid-morning on Thursday. They swept the building, and nothing was found.
By 9 a.m., MSP declared the building was safe, and staff were allowed to return.
Following a swift investigation, Varrone was arrested outside his without incident by the MSP Emergency Support Team and Fugitive Team.
He is in custody and expected to be housed at the Lansing City Jail.
Meanwhile, police said the Capitol building has been guarded since the outbreak of violent protests on Wednesday, so they're confident no one got inside.
Michigan lawmakers aren't back in session until next week.
