(WWJ) -- In an effort to make care and coverage more accessible and affordable, two leading health systems in Michigan are joining forces to create their own.
The new health system created between Beaumont Health in Southfield and Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, will temporarily be known as BHSH System and become official on Tuesday.
BHSH System will be not-for-profit and will provide care and coverage with a team of more than 64,000 people, including more than 11,500 physicians and advanced practice providers as well as more than 15,000 nurses offering services in 22 hospitals, more than 300 outpatient locations and several post-acute facilities.
The Chairman of the Board for Beaumont, Julie Fream, said the new system will focus on "continuing to provide excellent health care and coverage in all of the communities that we serve."

The 14 person Board of Directors for the new system will contain seven members each from Beaumont and Spectrum and will be led by Tina Freese Decker, who is currently the President and CEO of Spectrum Health.

While this new health system is being created, patients and health plan members are encouraged to access care in the same ways they currently do. All patients will continue to have access to their same sites of care, physicians and health providers as well as insurance plans.
