MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) - Authorities said almost two dozen residences are being advised to boil water after a water main break closed down a section of 22 Mile in Shelby Township Tuesday morning.

The Shelby Township Department of Public Works issued the alert mid-afternoon to residents in 19 houses along 22 Mile, in between Hayes and Schoenherr Roads.

Officials said water used for drinking should be boiled until further notice. Water used to bath, shower or clean could be used as usual.

Samples collected from the water main would be tested to ensure safety before the advisory is lifted; there are currently no estimates on how long results will take.

The Macomb County Road Commission closed down the area east of Pinebrook Drive after determining the water main break caused unsafe road conditions.

As of 3:00 p.m., the road remains inaccessible and police are urging drivers to use an alternate route.

"Currently we do not have an estimated time when the road will be opened back up," the Shelby Twp. Police Department said in a release earlier Tuesday morning.
