DETROIT (WWJ) -- Nearly 200 pounds of cocaine was seized last week at the U.S.-Canada border in Detroit, according to authorities.

U.S. Customs and Border Protections on Monday announced the seizure of 193 lbs. of the illegal drug back on Sunday. April 20.

The alleged culprit is a Canadian citizen who was heading back to Canada in a commercial vehicle over the Ambassador Bridge, according to USCBP.

An officer and his K9 inspected the vehicle and the attached-trailer and found two duffel bags filled with several bricks of a white powdery substance, which later tested positive for cocaine.

Officials said this is the third bulk cocaine seizure made by the Detroit CBP post in the last five weeks.

“This is yet another recent example of the commitment our officers have to protecting the American people from the scourge of dangerous drugs,” said Port Director Marc Calixte, in a statement. “It’s amazing enforcement work by all involved.”

The cocaine was seized, along with the truck and trailer. The driver faces federal prosecution.

“Safe and secure international commerce is essential to protecting the homeland,” said Director of Field Operations Marty C. Raybon. “Rest assured that we’ll continue to leverage all available resources to disrupt the transnational drug trade and those seeking to exploit our Michigan ports of entry.”

The case remains under investigation by ICE Homeland Security Investigations.
