ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) — A driver has been taken to the hospital after driving into the water in St. Clair Shores on Tuesday.

St. Clair Shores police officials say they were called to Lakefront Park — near Lakeshore Drive and 9 Mile Road — shortly before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after getting reports that someone had driven into Lake St. Clair.

Bystanders had already helped the driver — who was the only person in the car — get out before officers got to the scene, police officials said.

Coast Guard officials told WWJ as many as four people were reported to be in the water, but they were not sure how many were bystanders that jumped in to help.

The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation, but their condition was not clear.

Authorities did not immediately release any information about the driver, including their age.

The St. Clair Shores traffic bureau is investigating the crash.
